SHIRAIWAYAKI WAHEEGAMA
Waheegama is the only kiln in Akita Prefecture inherited from the traditional Shiraiwa-yaki since Edo period. The most distinctive feature of Shiraiwa-yaki is its deep blue color, called
“Namako glaze”. Rice husk ashes of the locally-harvested “Akitakomachi rice”, is an indispensable material for making this glaze. Only natural materials and no artificial colorants are
used, hence creating this vivid blue color.
IWAYADO TANSU PRODUCTION
The various artistic products of “Iwayado Craft” series are created using the offcut materials from manufacturing “Iwayado Tansu” (Iwate Prefecture’s traditional woodwork). Bearing in
mind the idea of exploring the possibility to utilize Tansu scraps to promote the charm of Iwayado Tansu to more people.

KUKAN CHUZO
Besides inheriting the tradition of Nanbu Tekki, Mr. Iwashimizu also uses a unique method “Yakihada” (Baked Surface Polishing) to produce his creations.
Additionally, his creations are selected for display by the Museum of Modern Art of New York (MOMA Shop), and have received excellent appraisals from people.

CRAFT STUDIO NADESHIKO
“Roiro” means a lustrous color with “no” color. When this transparent color is applied to clean Zelkova wood with a lacquer coating technique “Kijiro”, it will leave a glossy, mirror-like finish with its radiance changes according to light shining from different angles. “Roiro” is created by the inspiration of the Sendai Tansu. As time passed, the wood grain will gradually appear which forms the special features of “beautification over time”.
